Rafael “Rafa” Nadal Parera was born June 3, 1986 in Manacor, Mallorca. He is a Spanish tennis player who is currently #2 in the world for Men’s Singles ATP points standings. He is the newphew of former F.C. Barcelona footballer Miguel Angel Nadal.

Nadal is the premier counterpuncher in the men’s tennis game. His lightning pace and fitness has helped to establish him as one of the best defensive player in tennis today. While playing with a full Western grip, Nadal is able to achieve heavy top spin on his forehands which combined with his excellent counterpunching ability, has made him the player to beat on the courts.

Nadal plays with a Babolat Aero Pro Drive racket with Babolat Duralastc strings and has 15g of lead tape at the top of his racket under the bumper and 5g of lead in the handle. Although Nadal plays left-handed, he is naturally a right-handed. His uncle and coach Toni Nadal decided that his two-handed backhand would benefit from a strong right arm so Rafael was taught to play with his left.
